History's Inspiring Women

Dear Reader: Before you continue reading this blog post, we would like to mention how these are not all the inspirational women for there were and are many more, if you can think of any; please comment down below. Many Thanks- Mae and Esther :-) P.s: This is not in any particular order.  Joan of Arc was a French peasant girl who lead the French army into battles against the English until her capture in the spring of 1430. She was the daughter of a French farmer and his wife. At an early age, her mother began teaching her the ways of the Catholic faith, which led her to become a devout Christian. When she was thirteen, Joan started to claim that she was receiving messages and visions from God, she believed that God was commanding her to lead the French in a victory against the English. At this time, Joan took a vow of chastity. However, when she was sixteen years of age, her father did attempt to marry her off, yet this came to nothing. In the May of 1428, Joan went to th...

Hana's Suitcase

Image
Hana Brady During the awful events of the disastrous and brutal Holocaust , one of the millions of Jews murdered was a thirteen year old girl called Hana Brady. Upon her arrival at Auschwitz on 23rd October 1944, Hana was led to an immediate death in the Gas Chambers where she met her early end as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. Young Hana's story was revealed to the world in 2000, where a delivery of a Holocaust victim's suitcase arrived at Tokyo Holocaust Education Research Centre.  Hana grew up in Czechoslovakia with her parents and her older brother George. She was born on 16th May 1931. In 1939 the Nazis invaded Czechoslovakia and exercised  the same fascist rules as they had done and did in other countries that they took over such as Germany and Poland. These laws excluded and banned Jews from partaking and visiting the majority of the places in the village, e.g.: the cinema and certain shops as well as forcing each member of the Jewish community to wea...

Irena Sendler

Raised to respect and love people no matter their religion, social status and beliefs, Irena Sendler was a Catholic social worker who saved thousands of Jewish children during the Holocaust. She passed away in 2008 but is a massive inspiration for many people for her courage, kind- heart and resilience.  Irena Sendler was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1910 on 15th February. Her father, Dr. StanisÅ‚aw Krzyżanowski, was the only local docter. During the typhus epidemic of 1917, he went out and treated the communities who lived in poverty, mainly Jews. Unfortunatly, when Irena was just seven years old, he passed away due to typhus. She later recalled her father saying, on his deathbed: "If you see someone drowning, you must try and save them. Even if you cannot swim.". After Dr. Krzyżanowski's death, the Jewish community leaders offered Irena's mother, Janina, the money to pay for Irena's education, however Janina declined this offer.   When Poland went under Na...

The Holocaust

Image
The Holocaust I cannot begin to describe how horrendous, embarrassing and outrageous the Holocaust was. The Holocaust was a terrible 12 years of genocide when 11, 000, 000 people were brutally killed by the Nazi party. The majority of targeted citizens were Jews and the majority of them went to the Concentration Camps and never came out.  When the fascist came into power with Adolf Hitler as chancellor, they arrested a third of Jews alive during the 1930s-40s and murdered them, mainly in Concentration camps such as Auschwitz in Poland. In the Concentration camps, men were separated from women and the weak, mothers, pregnant women, old people and children were gassed in the notorious Gas Chambers. At least 1.1 million Jewish children were murdered. Concentration Camps were a large place were people were imprisoned and forced to work with little food, water and facilities. The Concentration Camps were horrific with 11 million people having died during the Holocaust. 6 ...
